CALL
TO ACTION
Although
the League of Women Voters does not support or oppose candidates, we
do take action on certain issues. For example, the League has supported
various legislative efforts to reform campaign finance in order to put
challengers on an equal financial footing with incumbents. We support
this issue among others, because we have studied it and have arrived
at agreement among our members -- consensus in League lingo.
Once we
reach consensus, our presidents may lobby legislators, write letters
to the media, speak to groups and testify before legislative bodies
according to the League's position on the issue. All other League members
are free to express their opinions as individuals and are encouraged
to do so, but only the president speaks for the League.
