MAKE DEMOCRACY WORK
Any person
who is at least 18 years old, a citizen of the United State and living
in Pueblo County may go to the Election Office on the second floor of
the court house, or to Pueblo City Hall (Union Ave and City Hall Place
-- first floor) to register to vote. Always take a picture ID with you,
a Colorado Drivers License is preferred or an ID issued by the Drivers
License Bureau. A person may also register when getting a Driver's License
The
League is ready to send qualified members to any group that has people
who wish to register. This can be requested by calling 544-4956 or make a requests by e-mail. The number and web site are listed below.
The
GENERAL Election (including state, county and city offices) will be
November 4, 2008
- The
last day to register of this election will be in early October 2008 (tba).
- Early
voting starts late October 2008
- Last
day to request an absentee ballot by mail is late October 2008 (tba) or a
person can go to the County Election Office and pick up an Absentee
ballot. (All Absentee Ballots must be in the hands of the County Clerk
by 7:00 p.m. to be counted.)
To learn
about the issues . . . The League of Women Voters of Colorado publishes
a pamphlet with a statement about each issue followed by a list of the
Pros and Cons. The League of Women Voters of Pueblo publishes a pamphlet
on each of the County and the City issues. These may be found at every
public library in the county.
In addition,
the League of Pueblo has a speakers bureau and any group may call the
League voice mail at 544-4956 or go to "Contact Us" on this
website and request a speaker by e-mail. Both the pamphlets and the
speakers will be available around October 1, which is very late this
year. It is preferred that talks are made before the early election
date; however they will come if there are some in the group that have
not voted.

Facts on registering to vote:
- The
best way to register to vote is to go to the Elections Office (on
the second floor, west end) of the Pueblo County Courthouse. Take
a picture ID with you a Colorado drivers license or ID card
are preferred. They are open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through
Friday. Also, people can register to vote at the City Clerks Office,
first floor of City Hall on Union Ave. at City Hall Place.
- The
League of Women Voters of Pueblo has been certified by the Secretary
of State to register voters. We will have various sites around Pueblo
where voter registration is available. Watch The Chieftain
newspaper for sites and dates. Also Horizon, published for
Pueblo West, carries this information.
- If you
have a church, a club, a business, a neighborhood where you can get
a group together or anyplace that a number of non-registered voters
are meeting, go to the Contact Us button on this website
and e-mail us (The League of Women Voters of Pueblo) or call our telephone
voice mail, 544-4956 and request someone to come and register voters.

Facts
about application forms to register to vote:
At
Pueblo LWV registrations sites all of these forms are available.
- Regular
registration forms are the usual type of registering. They can also
be used to change your address so that you receive mail about where
to vote and other information about voting.
- There
are absentee ballot forms to be used if you are going to be out of
town on election day or if you are ill and cannot get out, or if it
is just more convenient for you to vote from your home. You must apply
for these application forms at the Elections Department in the County
Courthouse. Call for information 583-6622. Then when the application
form comes, fill it out promptly and send it back. When you receive
the Absentee Ballot, fill it out and mail it back promptly; they have
to be received by 4:30 p.m. on (tba).
